Moguls Mull Downloadable Movies
The
L.A. Times reports that "major studios"
plan to make movies available for download. The flicks can't be
burned to DVDs, transferred to many portable players, or watched on
TV. And they'll cost up to twice what a DVD does now.
I just did some quick research, and it costs about $28 to overnight a DVD from Amazon. Less if you can find it used.
So, let me ask the obvious question: Why spend $36 to download a Windows-only movie I can only play on my computer, when it's cheaper to overnight the DVD from Amazon?
And I haven't even started talking about how this compares to Netflix.
