EFF is hosting a handy email form for writing your Congressman in support of HR 550, a bill that will help remedy some of the problems associated with electronic voting machines. In particular, it would require that all voting machines produce auditable paper trails, and that their source code be publicly available.

Here's my letter:

Dear Representative Gallegly,

I am writing to voice my support for the Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act (HR 550).

Voter confidence rests on the bedrock of a transparent electoral process. It is vital that electronic voting machines produce auditable paper trails, and that the inner workings of the voting machines, including computer source code, be public knowledge. HR 550 will mandate both of these measures.

These improvements can only improve the quality of our elections. If you have not already done so, I respectfully urge you to become a cosponsor of HR 550.
