Steve Jobs on DRM

By now everyone's read Steve Jobs's essay on DRM. Executive summary: Jobs would prefer not to use DRM, but the music industry giants simply won't do business without it.

Lawrence Lessig has posted a short response to his blog:

[T]here's a simple next step: There are artists on iTunes whose creative work is Creative Commons licensed. Colin Mutchler is one. When his stuff first went into iTunes, he requested the DRM be turned off. The request was refused. But if no-DRM is Apple's preferred policy, then let them begin here.

Bravo, Prof. Lessig. So now it's back in Apple's court. If they really do prefer to go DRM-free, a great place to start is to put control into artists' hands.
