Searching for an Organizer

Okay, so I'm finally going to do what everyone's been telling me to do since I was seven: get an organizer, and use it.

(And don't even start about how I should get a PDA. As far as I'm concerned, the personal day planner is still paper's killer app.)

Trouble is, I'm having trouble finding a good one. Nothing quite meets my (admittedly strict) criteria. And this is important. I can't fudge, or I'll have just wasted my money. I've tried this "getting organized" thing before, you see, and failed every time.

So here are my requirements:

  • Leather. I kill anything softer in weeks.
  • No "luxurious" squishiness. Thin cover. Fuck status symbols, I'm going to have to carry this thing.
  • Size: 8''x5''
  • Loose leaf. I'm going to be adding/removing pages at a frightening rate.
  • Loop for pen.

In a nutshell, I want something as close to my molskine as possible: 8''x5''x¾'', thin covers. I'm not going to get it, but that's the ideal.

That's the cover. Here's what I'm going to put inside:

  • 1yr calendar, 2 pages per week.
  • Ruled pages (otherwise blank) for making lists.
  • Color-coded sections of to-do lists:
    • Blue A: Calls to make.
    • Blue B: Emails to send.
    • Green: Actionable items. (There will be several of these, grouped by context or project: HOME, ERRANDS, AUTOMATED BACKUPS, etc.)
    • Yellow: Items I'm waiting for. (Loan papers from VW, etc.)

The calendar is a snap, but I can't find colored section dividers. And just forget about finding a leather binder at a reasonable price, let alone made to my specs above. This is crap. I'm going to cruise by Staples or something on the way home, and see what they have.
