The Power of Rest Days

Tuesday night's Krav class was a killer. 1000 punches in something like 15 minutes. This was the drill that I'd wished for when I was first starting out. Your arms feel like they're going to fall off, but there's nothing better for muscle memory than throwing the same punch 100 times in a row.

I considered hitting the gym last night to do some flexibility work on my ankle, but scrapped that plan in favor of a full rest night. I'm glad I did.

I got halfway caught up on housework last night (seven loads of laundry takes a while to fold), and made sure my mountain bike is in shape for a ride this weekend. (It could use a head-to-toe cleaning, but everything's tuned up nicely.)

This morning I feel great, and ready for tonight's Krav class. I have to admit that not climbing has been good for me. It's left lots of time for Krav, cycling, and hitting the gym, which is so good for me, physically and mentally. My fitness goals are simple: faster, stronger, leaner. Getting three days a week of cardio and crosstraining is moving toward those goals in a way that climbing never has.

I guess sometimes it's hard to see the rut you're in until you get out...
