Great Run
I've been getting out in the heat over the last couple of weeks, so that my body, which is typically ensconced in climate-controlled havens, will adjust itself to the reality that I live in Southern California, and it's 90° outside.
As part of that, I went for a run on Wednesday, July 4th, at about 2pm. Hottest part of a hot day. (Weather.com reports that it was 96°, but I don't quite buy it.) I planned on a just a 20-min spin to get out in the heat for a bit and keep the legs limber, but I felt really good after a couple miles, and decided to add a few more.
When I got home, I thought I'd added just 2 miles to the route, and so was kind of disappointed in my 50-min time. However, after plotting the route with a mapping site I trust, it's more like 5.5 miles. And I'll take a 50 min. time for that any day.
But to manage 5½ 9-min. miles in 90° heat on my longest run in months makes me pretty damn happy.
