More Physical Therapy

My knee has been in its familiar pattern lately: rest days feel horrible, then I go work out, run, or ride, and it feels a little stiff that night, and much better the next day.

Unfortunately, last night's run, which was both very short (20 min), and completely level, really pissed it off. I wrapped it and iced it last night, but it's still hurting today, so I'm skipping Krav and Jiu Jitsu in favor of a short walk and more RICE.

I've made an appointment with a sports-focused physical therapist, and I'll try to get in to see the Doc that looked at my ankle before then, in hopes that he'll clear the way for my insurance to cover some of the therapy expenses.

My biggest concern is his commitment to my goal: a return to hiking, biking, climbing, running, and everything else. If he starts talking about managing expectations, I'm gone. I'm 30. That's way too young, and this is way too treatable an injury for me to start talking about "taking it easy."

And I wonder if any physical therapist is going to be able to do what I can do for myself. I've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't. If the plan is to do three weeks of leg lifts and massage, then I'll nix the whole thing and just spend my time treating myself.
