The Cure for Sleepiness
Wired reports that researchers at UCLA have found that a naturally occurring brain hormone called orexin A reversed the effects of sleep deprivation in monkeys. And it seems to be side-effect free!
[UCLA Professor Jerome] Siegel said that orexin A is unique in that it only had an impact on sleepy monkeys, not alert ones, and that it is "specific in reversing the effects of sleepiness" without other impacts on the brain.
Marc Andreessen is "sobbing with excitement," and I can't say I blame him.
But while the FDA may take a decade to approve the orexin A nasal spray, a good night's sleep is freely available right now.
