Seeking Workable Alternatives
As gas prices rise, my monthly gas bill is topping $220, and I'm looking for alternatives. I'm looking at riding my bike to work. There are two things that have stopped me so far.
First, the Santa Susana pass, which is a four-mile stretch of winding mountain road that I'm frankly scared to do on a bike in morning/evening traffic.
The second is my Tues/Thurs Krav & Jiu Jitsu classes, which would force me to do the same mountain pass at 9:30pm and ride at 9pm through a pretty sketchy neighborhood.
But switching to a different school location could solve those problems. I would open up the possibility of taking the Metrolink back to Simi after work, and then biking to class. That would eliminate the ride over the pass, and get me out of said sketchy neighborhood by 5:30 or so.
More time riding bikes, less money in gas, and no lunatic late night rides. Worth a shot, right?
