Sequoia Voting Machines Have Problems

Ed Felten notes this morning that there is evidence that Sequoia voting machines have serious problems. Yes, this is the same Sequoia voting that threatened to sue Prof. Felten and the state of New Jersey if they tried to do any independent analysis of the voting machines.

I'm of the mind that corporate secrets do NOT trump constitutional rights or the health of public institutions (such as voting). Sequoia really looks like the bad guys here; even if they truly have nothing to hide, they sure look shady as hell.

Well, I think they're within their rights to enforce whatever contract they have with New Jersey. But it's a really dumb thing to do: the only reasonable response on the part of the State of New Jersey is to blackball Sequoia. "You forbid us to check the security of the voting machines? Fine. They're unusable, and we won't be buying any more. Ever."
