To-Do List Application?

Because my life revolves around to-do lists these days, I'm on the hunt for a real to-do list manager. So far, I haven't found a good one.

I've long said that day planning is paper's killer app. Paper is simply the best way to quickly jot down what/when/where. Need to change something? Just cross it out and write it on the next page, or just draw an arrow or something. Simple.

But paper is, for me, a dealbreaker. I just can't be bothered to carry a book with me everywhere. It's time I just admit that.

You see, there are plenty of calendar applications, and there are plenty of to-do list managers, but I can't seem to find a tool that integrates both. I may be forced to build my own.

I've been using Google Calendar for a while, and it's awesome. But there's no "To Do" functionality.

You really need two different views of your "To Do" items.

  • What I plan to do: The list(s) of items, which gives you a comprehensive view of your goals. This lets you see at a glance whether you're covering all the bases, and whether you have things prioritized properly. It should also show if/when each item is scheduled for.
  • When I plan to do it: A calendar view, which shows everything on your schedule, including when you plan to tackle specific to-do list items.

Looking at the list view, it can be tough to see when you have everything scheduled. If you're looking at the callendar, it can be tough to see whether you're covering all the bases.

Anyone have a favorite to-do list manager?

Might not suit your needs, but iCal has a To Do function and it integrates with setting To Do's in Mail. So, if you get an email with something you need to do, you can mark it as a To Do (and set due date, etc) and it will show up.

Anyway, it is simple, and works for me. Fairly idiot-resistant, which is high on my list of features.

Sounds pretty good. I'll check it out when I get home. Thanks!
