Quick Thoughts

Just spotted this tweet from Xeni Jardin:

Fell asleep on rock at beach; tide swept in & ate my iphone.

Ouch.

First, I keep thinking about how our notions of the future got everything backwards. We dreamed about flying cars, not realizing that more and more people would work from home in stead of commuting.

And we pictured going into the office and having holographic projectors place you "virtually" at the beach, making your work day more pleasant. Again, backwards: carrying a phone and a laptop can put you really at the beach, and virtually at the office. Moreover, it seems that cellphones and laptops should have been easier to see coming than holographic projectors.

So, really, I'm thinking about blind spots. We were so convinced that we'd all still go to the office that we never considered the office coming to us. What else are we not questioning about work?

Listening to Prof. Pausch's book on my iPod. Time to hit the road and see X-Files.
