BJJ: Musah v. Manuel

The scoring controversy is, to me, maybe the least interesting thing going on here. Look how tense and agressive the top man, Manuel is, while the guy on the bottom, Musah is active and quick, but extremely relaxed.

Manuel also keeps his posture beautifully. On his feet, his stance is wide and Musah's hips are under control. On his knees, even when he's forward, his belly button never gets forward of his knees, so his center of gravity is always under his own control. Pretty amazing. So when Manuel goes for the sweep, it's ineffective.

But mostly, I see that both fighters stick with what's working for them in the short term, and refuse to change strategies. They're both content to stop the other guy from winning, and so that's what happens: the match ends with no score, and goes to a judges' decision. Kind of sad, really.

Anyway, buck & roll and passing guard are my new projects.
