Weekend Wrap-Up

Weekend Wrap-Up

Fantastic, relaxing weekend. Great Thai food, Sunshine (one thum way up, the other emphatically down), brunch at Harold's, used CD shopping, excellent salmon (I'm starting to get good with the charcoal!), La Vie en Rose (two thumbs way, way, way up).

And my girl and I had a fantastic Sunday evening at the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra's "Tribute to Hollywood" concert. They show scenes from various movies and play the orchestral sountracks live. We had a wonderful early dinner, and packed a picknick desert for the concert.

Somewhere in the mix, I got my Airport Express hooked up, and the Remote app installed on my iPhone. So I can now pipe music from my laptop to my stereo, and use my phone as a remote control for the whole thing. Very, very slick. Once I hook up my printer to the Airport, I'll be in geek nirvana. (Dare I hope that adding USB backup drives to the mix will work?) I also tried out a few movie theater-related apps on my phone, settling on "Admit One". All of them seem to have been stripped of their ability to actually buy tickets through the app, which is annoying.

And yesterday I got out to the climbing gym for a few hours, which proved humiliating. I got rudely ejected from several 5.9 climbs, and found a 5.10a I couldn't even start. I redeemed myself by hiking a 10a I've done several times, but still. I really, really felt the effects of not climbing for a month.

Both sessions on the bike last week were great. I'm amazed at how closely biking mirrors music. In both cases, periods of growth are uncomfortable: you ride/play much better, but it feels worse. Friday's spin in Wildwood is a perfect example: I didn't feel strong at all, but I did extremely well on the Santa Rosa trail, and cleaned Stagecoach Bluff straight through, which I've never done before.

Family's visiting from the east coast this week, I'm trying to keep my schedule flexible. So it looks like I'll be skipping Krav/BJJ in favor of family time, and catching a bike ride where I can. (But, I've packed my duffel for Krav just in case.)

Happy Tuesday!
