Weekend Wrap-Up

Quiet weekend. Friday night I went for a run, then chilled at home and watched a bit of HBO's John Adams series, and spent Saturday morning cleaning and running errands. This was made somewhat more exciting by my car battery dying at the worst possible moment: I was on my way to deliver lunch to my girlfriend. The food was in the car, I was ready to go, and poof! No battery. Damn.

Luckily, my girl was nearby anyway, so she came and grabbed the food, gave my car a jumpstart, and was on her way. I went straight to Sears, where they confirmed the dead battery, and installed a new one. (Yes, I'm lame when it comes to DIY car stuff.)

While I was there, I invested in a steam cleaner for my carpet. "Why," you ask? Because a pumpkin rotted and put a nasty stain on my carpet, and because I've always wanted a painless way to clean carpet. Scrubbing just seems so... primitive.

I spent Saturday night with my girlfriend getting caught up on Heroes (which now has more plot holes than we can stand) and baking and eating cake. We put the icing on before it was completely cooled, so it kind of slouched. But that's okay. There are no rules for cake.

My girlfriend and I lamented last week that many of our friends are too far away to be part of a proper pumpking carving party, so we've created a group Halloween blog for everyone to post to. I can't wait to see how it all shakes out as we get closer and closer to Halloween!

And I'm now in the final stages of getting my laptop set up for web app development. Specifically, I'm getting it set up to work on the software that runs this blog. Once that happens, bye-bye desktop. Once I get it running, I'll be checking everything into Subversion, and the transition will be complete.

Sadly, no biking or hiking or biking this weekend. My sprained thumb kept me off my bike (and out of childproof containers, incidentally), and three 5.5-mile runs this week absolved any guilt I might feel about taking a couple of lazy days. Getting back to running feels great, and I'd love to add running to my weekly routine. (Lunch time?)

Just to freak me out, Mother Nature has gone completely to Autumn in about two days. I got home tonight after having dinner with my parents, and discovered that the temperature in my apartment was down around 63. So tonight marks the official first use my heater this season.

And now, it's time for bed. G'night, all!
