Monday Night Ground Fighting Class
Simi Valley Krav Maga has switched their schedule around, and introduced a ground fighting class to their already excellent lineup. (For the hard core, you can follow an hour of ground fighting with an hour of Krav 2/3.)
Tonight's class was great fun: countering sloppy haymakers with nasty chokes and takedowns, then learning the counters for those chokes. It overlapped a bit with some Krav 1/2 stuff, but with the "mean" factor cranked up a bit. Instead of simply taking more favorable positions, we're jumping straight to breaking arms and chokes.
I've dropped about 7 lbs in the last month, and done a lot of running and rebuilding of basic fitness. And it shows. I'm getting around a lot better, and I've got energy for days.
After class let out, I headed home, changed into some warmer clothes, and headed out for a run. I set an easy pace, and breezed through my 5.5-mile "oak tree loop" run, and felt so good down the home stretch that I was tempted to throw in another few miles. But by then it was getting cold, and the wind was starting to bite, and the little voices in my head reminded me that feeling good this workout means I go bigger next time, not this time.
All in all, I feel really good about how my body is building back up. I feel great, I'm sleeping better, and I can't wait to get back on my bike for some long autumn rides.
