Ride Prep

I've been stretched a little thin lately, and haven't had time for long rides the way I used to. There's a couple reasons for this. First, I just haven't had time to head off into the hills for hours at a time. And once I get home, there's plenty to do, so I don't really have the freedom to crash as hard as I really want to after a long ride like that. The full cycle of prep, ride, and recovery for a 5-hour ride really does take up a whole day.

But my girlfriend is out of town for a few days, and I've got a little extra vacation time in the bank, and so I'm taking tomorrow off to get the super suit on and go get some trail dust in my teeth.

I'm planning to head out to Simi to ride Las Llajas, Devil's Canyon, Johnson Fire Rd., and Chumash, then catch a spin through Wildwood on my way home, if I'm up to it. But it's all optional.

Whatever I do, here's tonight's checklist:

  • bike shop: patches, Perpetuem, Clif bars
  • laundry: socks, shorts, jersey
  • charge GPS & camera battery
  • put floor pump in car, walk Henri, pick up Thai take-out. (Yum!)
  • clean & lube drive train, check derailleurs, align brakes
  • wash out CamelBak
  • pack: gloves, helmet, wind jacket, shoes, GPS, camera (both should be done charging by now), and rescue bag, plus comfy clothes to get into when I'm done with the ride.

I'm really looking forward to this. Pictures and GPS to follow!
