Travel Tips
I've done a bit of traveling lately, and have picked up a few (more) lessons that will make future travels easier... so long as I remember them. Here they are for future reference.
- Switch rooms at the first sign of trouble. I usually get placed next to the elevator, entrance, etc, and think, "Well, if it's a problem, I'll call the desk." Wrong. Call as soon as you think there's a problem. Switching rooms only gets harder the longer you wait.
- No matter how nice the hotel is, the public computer is always crap. I'll be taking my laptop on all overnight trips from now on.
- Don't plan on room service, or the restaurant at the hotel. We ate much better elsewhere. (The Copley Square Hotel in Boston has excellent room service, BTW.)
Pick hotels that have:
- A large, modern TV in the room with hookups to connect my laptop's a/v output.
- Microwave
- Free Wifi & Wired 'net access
- Excellent room service menu, esp. deserts and breakfasts.
- Swift, painless check-in and -out
- Coffee shop within easy walking distance (preferably within sight)
- Public Train system within easy walking distance (where such a system exists).
- No charge for parking.
- A full selection of dinner, desert, and breakfast options available via room service.
- Soy milk & ice cream available on room service menu.
And I'm really tempted to take my Roku with me the next time I travel. Can't really see a downside...
