My Day
Actual conversation (name changed):
(Phone rings.) ME: "Hello, this is Chris."
CALLER: "Hi, is this Chris?"
ME: "Yes, who's calling, please?"
CALLER: "I'm calling in regards to your request for an estimate on a home remodel."
ME: "Who are you?"
CALLER: "I'm calling about the estimate you asked for."
ME: "I understand. Who are you?"
CALLER: "My name is Debbie."
ME: "Hi, Debbie. Who do you work for?"
CALLER: "We're a general contracting company."
ME: "What is the name of the company?"
CALLER: "My name is Debbie."
ME: "I know. I'm asking for the name of the company you work for."
CALLER: "Oh. XYZ Contractors."
The conversation went downhill from there. I just said that it wasn't a good time, and got a return number that I did not write down.
I'm instituting the Ten Words Rule for the rest of the day.
