Advice for Dog Owners

Trails are dangerous places: snakes, ticks, contaminated water, poisonous plants, poop, lizards, sunstroke. Hiking with your dog is excellent and provides mental stimulation and exercise your dog needs. Stay away from dogs you don't know; they carry diseases and may be agressive. Make sure she gets plenty of experience meeting strangers, so she's well socialized. Never leave her in the yard unsupervised. Make sure she isn't cooped up inside all day. Hot dogs make great training treats. Never feed her people food. Stay away from anything made in China, especially at big box stores like PetSmart. Dog treats don't have to list ingredients, but make sure you read the ingredients list. If it's made in China, don't trust the ingredients list. Rawhide chews are full of chemicals. Rubber chews are full of chemicals and can tear off and cause blockages. Make sure you give her something to chew on. Make sure she has plenty of open space to run freely. Don't let her off the leash.
