Damn Region Coding

Okay, so I'm intrigued enough in Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's round-the-world motorcycle trip to buy the DVD. I did a quick google search (since I couldn't remember the exact title), and discovered that Amazon UK lists the DVD's availability as "usually dispatched within 24 hours." Excellent!

I pop over to amazon.com to discover that it's not yet available, and has no scheduled release date.

The region coding on the DVD makes it impossible to play this disk in my Sony DVD player. The studio refuses to sell me a DVD that will. So, for the moment, my only option if I want to see this show is to break the law: buy it from Amazon UK, and use an illegal DVD descrambler on my Linux machine to watch the movie. Alternately, I can check any of my favorite P2P services and see if I can download it. (Hey, if the studio doesn't want my money, I have no problem with that.)

[UPDATE 1/17] Whups, got this one garbled. The "Long Way Round" DVD set is Region 0, which means it can be played in any player, but it's a PAL disk, which won't work with my NTSC player and TV. (I'll double-check on this; my player may be able to cope.)
