Organization
I've been working hard lately to get my shit together. New clothes have been bought to replace some of the old, a new 250GB hard drive has been installed, and my backup system is complete. (I'm watching rsync copy my home directory to the backup system as I write this.)
Really, it's about clearing the mental clutter. Get the books off my desk, get the CD's organized and moved to a rack, etc. I think this is a large component of one of my favorite hackerly quotes.
Spacial clutter has a way of creating mental clutter. We keep the things near us that are important. When everything's out, and in our way, then everything's important. It becomes really hard to prioritize.
I don't know where all this is going. I just know that I feel a little bit of relief watching all these file names scroll by as rsync backs them up. One problem solved. Not all-the-way solved, but good enough for now. I've hit my milestone for the weekend, and I'm going to leave it at that. I'll think about such things as setting up cron jobs another night. Now I'm just going to eat pizza and read.
