Network printing with HP psc 2210

This is really just a personal knowledge base entry, and I'll make no effort to make it entertaining.

Spent most of last night trying to get network printing working at my parents' house. All computers have wireless cards, and a Netgear PS121 mini print server connects their HP psc 2210 to the network.

Netgear's compatibility list indicates that the print server and printer are compatible, but HP apparently claims otherwise.

The solution was found at Epinions:

One note for you wireless laptop users. HP says this printer is not made to work with a stand-alone print server (not a computer), so they have no simple driver/INF file. However, it can be made to work. The HP Deskjet 990 driver (download from www.hp.com) will provide good printing functionality.

This has worked, and all computers on the network are now printing happily.
