The Job Market is Changing
There seems to be a kind of tectonic shift going on in the job market. Suits are noticing that geeks actually run the planet, and it's been noticed that truly great geeks can be an order of magnitude more productive than "average" geeks. And they're realizing that those super-geeks are hardly ever on the job market.
So recruiters have gotten smart: they've discovered weblogs.
Unfortunately, they're still behaving like recruiters. In Ted Leung's case, they emailed him cold and demanded a resume and three professional refrences. Not cool.
They make money by moving you from job to job, so they don't want to hear that you're happy where you are. And their (generally) too dim to realize that by building a relationship with you now, you may refer friends to them in the short term, and use their services yourself later.
Yes, American corporations have long since forgotten how to play the long game.
