Next Year

Well, it looks like the Marathon isn't going to happen. I sat down and did the math last night.

An agressive training schedule would have to start with three-mile runs at the beginning of October. At the moment, I don't think that's realistic. I'm fine to walk for 20 minutes or so, and I'm now clear to do an easy bike ride for 10-15 minutes, or eliptical machine for 10 minutes or so. Building up from that to 26.2 miles is no small thing. Most 4- or 6-month training schedules are predicated on an existing base of regular running. I'm starting from my couch.

Bottom line: pushing too hard is what got me here in the first place. I won't make the same mistake again. So tonight I go home, take a ride around the block, then ice my knee and read up on Google Maps.

What's making me crazy is that whenever I say "the Marathon isn't going to happen", everyone says that I should have a better attitude. When I say I'm committed, I get nothing but admonishments that I shouldn't push too hard.

So, I'm going to keep a positive attitude, and not push too hard, and we'll see what happens.
