Knee Update: Firing my Physical Therapist
I trusted them because they came highly recommended, and because the reason I'm injured is that my sense of what's "reasonable" or "light excercise" is out of whack. I trusted "experts."
Typical morning:
- 20 minutes of hot pads on my knees
- 10 minutes ultrasound massage
- 10 minutes massage
- 10 minutes stretching
- 5 minutes very easy leg work: weighted front leg raises.
- 10 minutes waiting for someone to come tell me what to do next.
- 10 minutes on the eliptical cross-trainer
- 15 minutes ice and electrical stimulation
Now, there are a few problems here: none of this is agressive enough to really fix an injury. It's fine for people recovering from a knee surgury, but I don't need recovery, I need a cure.
Also, they were stretching me before I did any excercise. They were stretching me cold, first thing in the morning. This ran against what little I know, but I went with it because, y'know, they're the experts.
So I'll be doing light workouts and stretching on my own. On my own recognisance, I'm going to find a physical trainer, and I know an excellent massage therapist that can help with stretching out my ITB. (It's a tough muscle to stretch on one's own.)
And if I'm not making progress in a month, the Doc wants to see me again.
So I have a timeline, a plan, and backup from my doctor. Outstanding. I'm at the gym tonight, leg pressing... 30lbs or so. *chuckle*
