Fixing Muted Sound in Linux

Had a bit of a problem today: the sound on one of my Linux boxes was permanently muted. Had to audio streams running, wanted to listen to only one of them, and muted it. But then everything was muted, and wouldn't come un-muted. To fix:
  1. As root, type alsamixer
  2. Hit m, which turns the master volume control back on, or something.

More staggering insights as events warrant.

Oh, and in case you're looking for a place you can't afford to shop at, I found it. Chinos for $600. Coats for more than my car is worth.
