Distractions
I've also been trying to lower my stress level and get more done. A few simple things have had great success.
Coding for this website is like a gas: it will expand to fill whatever time I alot. So: I alot short blocks of time and set definite milestones. I code until I hit 90 minutes or my milestone, whichever comes first.
I only watch TV while doing something else: eating, folding laundry, or pedaling. TV is a time sink, so I reserve it for when my hands are busy but my mind is bored.
And here's the counterintuitive one: I go to bed earlier. Whenever I feel like there aren't enough hours in the day, it means I'm trying to cram too much in, or not using my time well. Reduce the load, let a few things slide for a day or two, and get some sleep.
Implicit in my time limits (90 minutes of coding, bed at 11pm) is the notion that "it'll all be here tomorrow." By putting things down, I remind myself that I don't have to conquor the world today. My two favorite phrases lately are: "The bills are all paid" and "I've hit my milestone; I'm done for the day."
